dangaus ir žemės kūnai
the vibrancy of this painting still startles me. it’s a loud artwork with much to say.
i usually draw parallels between human and nature, but with this one, i juxtaposed (excuse the pretentious language) humanity with celestial bodies.
do we consider space as part of nature? should we? space is certainly natural. according to most theories, anyway.
but in any case, this painting is a reflection on our relationship and kinship to worlds beyond this one. we’ve been said to be made of stardust, of all the same heavy elements that comprise anything in the universe. which is fascinating to reflect on.
though as magical and spiritual that may sound, all of that is still very physical. we’re talking about the tangible parts of ourselves and the stars and the planets. i also considered thoughts, dreams, consciousness, and other things that are more concept than matter. how much likeness do we share in those aspects?
a lot of my paintings draw conclusions. i start with curiosity or a dilemma, and the painting is finished when a sense of resolve presents itself. like every painting is a process of learning, of discovery.
well, this one is just curiosity. unanswered questions and exploration that doesn't bear answers so easily.
is there charm in having no clue about what the answers are? that's up to you.
