akiplėša
akiplėša was first supposed to be a portrait of a flower being. the plan was to paint petals around her face, which was meant to be a lot softer, a more delicate look that what the finished artwork turned out to be.
the petals just didn’t work, didn’t resonate with where my mind was.
this painting came from thinking that i should be meaner. that i should be a worse person. i still look back on moments in my life and think that i could’ve been meaner. kindness is important—and my natural state—but some people and situations require viciousness. akiplėša is exactly that. unapologetic disdain. the pop of red among the cold has the exact effect it was meant for.
i want to create more art that speaks of female rage. akipleša might just be the predecessor.
i’m not suggesting contempt over kindness. but women should be more evil.
patriarchy raised men to take up space, to feel superior, to take up leadership positions and lead through tantrums. patriarchy told men they are allowed anger, but other emotions make them weak. historically, men’s anger created wars, while women’s anger created emancipation. on our way to a matriarchal world, i stand by female rage. we have every right for it.
fun fact, on the backside of akiplėša, you can see some outlines of the painting that lives under it. it was a painting of two silhouettes, with an alien spaceship in the background.
maybe that’s the one i should reproduce next.
